Hi Everyone - we hope you are all enjoying your summer so far! As some of you may know, we have started to serve Kakigori (Japanese shaved ice) at Dojo. Kakigori has always been a popular Japanese dessert, existing way back since the Heian Period (11th century). Obviously there were no shaved ice machines back then so people made Kakigori by shaving natural ice formed during winter with a knife blade. The ice that was shaved was then stored in ice houses. Only the upper class were able to eat this delicious Kakigori during that time. When Meiji Period came around, Kakigori became available to the mass public. The first Kakigori shop opened in Kanagawa in 1872. Ever since then, Kakigori continues to be a favorite dessert/snack to many, especially during summer!

Dojo currently has three shaved ice flavors - Strawberry, Melon, and Green Tea. You can have it at the restaurant or get it to go in a cup! Stay cool from the hot summer and refresh yourself with one of our kakigori! We are also open to suggestions for more new flavors, so leave us some comments or e-mail us! Stay hydrated ;)
